Artists’ moving image and work for screen opens up all sorts of possibilities for sound designers, sound artists and composers in service of the image of film on screen. The sound artist can create reactive, subversive and fun soundscapes in response to found footage, abstract images and edited sequences to access new and exciting avenues for expression.
Join writer-sound designer Antosh Wojcik & writer-director Xenia Glen from Sleepwalker for a two hour online session exploring some of the moving images from their work-in-progress film ‘Camel Before the Storm’, a film examining the past, present and future of the Camel Estuary in Cornwall. We’ll discuss process, ekphrastic design (crafting soundscapes in response to visual art) and conduct a couple of exercises. There will be a sample pack available in session for participants to access and experiment with both in session and beyond.
Artists of all disciplines are welcome to the session - even if you’re just finding your way with sound/artistic expression. Participants are welcome to bring along their preferred DAW (digital audio workstation) like Audacity, Logic, Ableton etc - but if you’re attending just out of curiosity, a notepad or notetaking app is all you might need. This will be a relaxed and fun session of discovery, trial and error and expression, with a short break at the midpoint.
This project is commission through the Leeside creative collaboration between Natural England and Arts and Culture at the University of Exeter. Find out more on the commission's project page.
