Acquired in 1971 for the opening of the Amory building, this work in bronze is an expression of being cramped. It was produced at a time when the artist was inhabiting his abstracts with figures.
Peter Thursby was an Exeter artist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Thought of primarily as an abstract artist, for a time he incorporated figures inside his forms, as in this example.
