About the work

This 5-minute film throws a light on how the abnormality of lockdown seeps into home life. It’s normal for us to sit together for dinner, but there’s something uncanny about this new guest.

In isolation, with no friends or visitors coming into the home, we are thrown back onto our family rituals and resources to manifest the company we crave. Once upon a time we made Mary, then there was Sue. Using junk, paper and other materials we create Stacey to accompany us as we turn what is strange into a new normal.

About the artists

We are a family of 5 with artistic skills that include visual art, contemporary dance, photography, theatre and storytelling. Our past shared activities – playing, dancing, home movies, inventing games, making something to while away a rainy day - inform this cross-arts collaboration.

Exploring Mundania

Illustrator Ellie-Pellowe Bailey has created a series of sequential illustrations depicting a single person re-navigating their domestic space as if it were a new and exciting world. As mundane objects gain a life of their own, these illustrations throw up questions about our approach to human connections and communication.

Artist Laura Porter worked with deconstructed clothing items donated by members of her household to create a small series of sculptural works inspired by the surfaces that are subliminally part of our everyday, which have now come under new scrutiny in the new 'normal' we are now living in.

A Date with Doug

The Borrowers meets Honey I Shrunk this Kids in this short playful puppetry performance from Cornwall-based puppeteer, actor and writer Jennie Rawling. Explore her immediate domestic environment from the point of view of a 12cm puppet, as they scale giant noticeboards and navigate around prickly houseplants on their way to a first date.
