Urgency Arts Commissions Events

Commissions News

Throughout October and November we ran a series of events across Exeter and Cornwall, in relation to our 2019 Arts Commissions. These three projects creatively explored and responded to the theme of urgency in three very different and intriuging ways.

Artist and printmaker Catherine Cartwright created Brave New World, an exhibition of photographs and printed portraits of Devon residents who had taken part in protest. At its heart an insightful exploration in to the use of automatic facial recognition and it's effect on freedom of assembly.

Choreographer Joumana Mourad explored the use of virtual reality to help uncover the science behind the way we move in a playful VR performance experience for the public called Future Proof Your Body 01, which took place at both our Streatham campus and the Minack Theatre, Cornwall.

Award-winning poet Fiona Benson and BBC radio producer Mair Bosworth collaborated on a stunning immersive sound and live poetry event at the RAMM called In The Company of Insects, which explored mass insect migrations and the future of insect populations. We're thrilled to be taking this project forward with Fiona as part of our 2020 commissions so do watch this space for more.

If you didn't manage to get to any of the events take a look at the gallery below for a selection of images from each.
