Did you know that Arts and Culture look after the University’s fine art collection? You may be aware of the sculptures on campus but there are many paintings, prints, engravings and drawings in the collection too. They are here to be enjoyed by students, staff and the public, and can be used for educational and research purposes too.

We have recently developed a Collection Development Policy for the Fine Art Collection, which has been approved by the University Council. This policy will help us apply a consistent and transparent approach to shaping the fine art collection and provide clarity about what the collection does and does not contain. In this way we can build and care for a fine art collection which is of high quality, supports education and research and gives staff and students the opportunity to enjoy art around our campuses.

Under the policy, decisions as to whether artworks should enter the fine art collection will be made by the Arts and Culture Steering Group, which is made up of not only representatives from Arts and Culture, but also senior academic and professional services staff from across the University.

You can view and download the the Collection Development policy here.

The npolicy does not apply to Special Collections or the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum collections which have their own policies and procedures.
