Choreographer, film maker and artistic director Lea Anderson has been involved in hundreds of collaborations all over the world. She is one of the founding members and Artistic Director of The Cholmondeleys and Featherstonehaughs, two of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the UK. In 2002 Lea was awarded an MBE for her services to dance, and in 2006 gained an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Dartington College of Arts.

For her Creative Fellowship with us she has been working with Professor John Plunkett and the team at the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum on our Streatham campus exploring their extensive collections, with a focus on Victorian peepshows and optical devices.

Below she tells all about her time working with the musuem so far.

The process has been better than I could have imagined. Professor John Plunkett is a source of endless inspiration and knowledge and a lot of my research is sneaking into other projects I am already working on.

The most interesting thing has been models of popular culture through the ages. Nothing changes. Everyone wants entertainment and entertainers have always searched for ways to reach those people and make it easy for them to part with their money. I have become very interested in phantasmagoria - projections and illusions of ghosts and dead people coming to life as cabaret. Of course!

If I could describe my time at the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum in three words it would be 'Ladies and Gentlemen!' or 'For your Pleasure!' or 'Before Your Eyes!'. If you'll allow to have four words I could sum it all up with 'Going to the pictures!'.
