Path is a stunning architectural glass artwork by Alexander Beleschenko, commissioned specially for the University’s Forum building which was opened by the Queen in 2012.

The work comprises several groups of colourful forms which are digitally printed into the glass panels at either end of the Forum building and the University reception, on the Streatham Campus.

The design, which can be appreciated from inside or out, resembles concertina spirals, producing movement and energy. Depending on the time of day and light levels, light and shadow are thrown on to different parts of the work, creating constant interest.

About the Artist

Alexander Beleschenko, architectural glass artist, is inspired by creating positive environments with light and colour. Born in Corby in 1951, he studied painting at Winchester School of Art and printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art. He later went on to study Architectural Stained Glass at Swansea School of Art. He began his architectural glass career in Exeter but returned to Swansea in 1986 where he established his current studio. Embracing modern glass-working technologies, his work caught the imagination of the architectural fraternity and he went on to produce a huge body of major architectural glass artworks for underground stations, office spaces, transport hubs, education establishments and religious and civic buildings. These can be seen in Britain, Germany, France, USA, Japan and the United Arab Emirates.

Alexander Beleschenko is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is also an Honorary Graduate of the University of Exeter.
