The exhibition at Thelma Hulbert Gallery invites us to become submerged in diverse waterscapes: From Arun Sood’s multimedia investigation of his ancestral ties to the tidal island of Vallay, to Ellen Wiles’ sound story ‘Riverlandia’ showcasing a myriad of voices from the Porlock Vale, the gallery floats between watery perspectives. Dartmoor is a landscape that has inspired novelists, researchers and artists for centuries, due to its varied, striking and often wild natural features. A current exhibition at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) Exeter, Dartmoor: A Radical Landscape shows the works of twenty different artists all using Dartmoor as inspiration for their practices, with some even living and permanently working on the land. This particular piece explores the work of some of the artists in the exhibition selected due to their friendships and collaborations with one another and delves into the importance of community spirit in a landscape facing multiple challenges in the present day.
